Pest Control |Ants
Long Island ant exterminator A&C Pest Management has you covered for all types of ants. Each season bring different ant activity, and A&C Pest uses an Integrated Pest Management program to find and eliminate ants in your home. Some common ants found in and around your home may include:
Pavement Ants: called the pavement ant because they often nest in pavement cracks, these ants can be quite invasive. They are small and brown, and will forage up to 30 feet away from their nests to find food. This is usually how they end up inside, creating nests in walls and under floors. They are small, and dark black-brown. The alates (queen and drones) have wings.
Carpenter Ants: one of the largest ants found in this area, the carpenter ant often makes tunnels in rotting trees or wood, but they will nest in any hollow area that is close to food or water. They will forage up to 300 feet for food, and once they get inside through small cracks or crevices, they can infest wood, insulation, or hollow spaces/cavities. A common misconception is that carpenter ants eat wood. They hollow out wood to make nests for their young, but they prefer to eat honey-dew like most ants.
Odorous House Ants: their name comes from the smell that emits when you crush them, almost like coconut. And these ants are one of the most troublesome pests to combat, they are polydomous and polygynous (many nests, many queens). They are small and brown to black, and they are most active between March and September.
Pharaoh Ants: small and yellow to light brown, these ants are almost transparent. They too are polygynous, and they can also form many colonies. Pharaoh Ants are a tropical species, so they prefer warmer areas.
Argentine Ants: called Argentine ants because they are native to Argentina (among many other countries), these ants are very small, they can squeeze through cracks only .04 inch. Argentine ants nest in places similar to those that Pavement and House ants nest, only they aren't that good at digging so you will find them nesting in shallower spaces outside. Due to their similar appearance, they are often confused with Pharaoh Ants.
